EEEK! It’s swimsuit time again! Sheesh! Just when you thought you were in the clear. Well, you know all the gym and diet pill people have been warning you for months that it was coming. But enough about that. The fact is, if you like the look of the bikini, there is no reason you can’t wear one. NONE. Got it? There are a few key things that you need to do and need to keep in mind when you are preparing for the big reveal, but once you get those covered, you can uncover.
1. You need to buy a suit that flatters your figure, and yes, fits. I know, you think it didn’t need to be said, but you would be surprised. Some people need to be told. The shop is the most important element of the bikini reveal. If you are afraid to go out into the stores, that’s fine. I hate bikini shopping in public too. There are a ton of stores online that you can shop from and **noone will ever have to know!!** If you are shopping in-store, you MUST try on. Sorry, even I can’t get you out of that one. If you don’t, you will get a suit that doesn’t fit, and all of your bikini revealing fears will be warranted. Try them on until you find one that you like, that fits, and flatters your figure. Keep trying until you find the one. Now, if you are buying online, look around at different outlets. I recommend either Old Navy or Victoria’s Secret – it’s where I do all of my online shopping because their size charts NEVER fail me. Did you hear what I said? That’s right, size charts. USE THEM. When buying online you simply MUST know your measurements. That is the only way you are going to find the perfect fit. Find the suit that you like, and check the size chart for measurements, and voila! You have a great fitting suit! Now you just have to get out there in it!
2. If you want to flatter your figure, and who doesn’t, know what your best features are and accentuate them. Solid colors look best and are streamlining if you have a fuller figure. For shorter legs, look for a high cut brief that will elongate your legs. It doesn’t matter what your thighs look like, really, because people’s eyes will be going with the vertical line, not the horizontal. Longer legs, well, really, you don’t need any tips there, you just don’t want to hide those! If you have large breasts, you want to get a bandeau or a tube top that will flatten them a little bit and take the eye away from them. Similarly if you have small ones, go for demi-cups, triangle cuts, and an underwire. Push those babies up and you will be surprised what happens. Also for the smaller breasted you may want to get something with ruffles or details on the top that will give the appearance of larger sizes. If you are concerned about the behind, go with boy shorts as they always minimize the rearview, and this is a good cut if you are concerned about tummy control as well.
3. Lastly, if you are really that concerned about how you look in a suit, accessorize to the MAX. Check out this awesome beach tote by Ralph Lauren. You can’t lose with this one, it is eye catching! Add some pretty bangles, a funky bo ho necklace, and some great sandaled heels. You will turn heads, and trust me, people won’t be thinking about your trouble spots!
Go out and have fun, that’s what summer is all about. The most important key to wearing the perfect bikini is confidence! Trust me, you are more worried about those soft spots than anyone else!
