Designer Profile — Cindy Greene and Johnson Hartig for Libertine Bring Their Label to Target (Translation — Cheap Designer Fashion)

admin | Brand Name Clothes, Cheap Finds, Designer Profiles, Libertine | Thursday, 19 July 2007

libertineshow Cindy Greene and Johnson Hartig, also known as the team Cindy Johnson are the creative directors for the elite designer label Libertine. This design teams works in true concert with each other for Libertine. Johnson, an L.A. based designer searches for vintage pieces and recuts and reassmbles them with stitching that is exposed and raw edges. He will then send them to his N.Y. based partner Cindy wo will silk-screen 19th century images onto them. Every piece is what is known as a one-off, meaning one of a kind. Their collections are hip and current and unite the themes of Victorian, Goth, and punk. Their first collection came in September 2001, but the big wigs such as Karl Lagerfeld have made it a wardrobe staple. Other celebs sporting the Libertine line are Mick Jagger, Michael Stipe, Dave Navvaro, Brad Pitt, Liv Tyler and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Neither of these vintage geniuses have studied fashion design at “The Institute” or elsewhere for that matter. Greene hails from OH and worked with DKNY in graphics, and Hartig is an out-of-work actor who designed a shirt, and wore it to a wrap party he snuck into. The next thing they knew, his line was being sold at Fred Segal and Maxfield.

They have just merged with GoTarget to create a line that is more traditional, but still contains the vintage undertones. Their name and the Libertine label is on the line, so you can now purchase the Libertine label at prices you can’t ignore.

The look is one that is a little more artistic than bohemian, but with boho undertones. You will see sophisticated sportswear designed from vintage clothes with customized front pleating on many of the skirts and dresses which is such a unique look this year.

I love this little jacket, and would pair it with their white lace dress. So pretty. But have a look at target to get a look at the entire collection. This look you can get at Target for about $50 for the set. Also Target is offering FREE SHIPPING on orders over $50.  Here is a link right to the
