Top Shoe Designers Prove – There’s No Place Like Home

Ah yes, when it comes to New York Fashion Week it can certainly feel like the most mystical place on earth. And while top designers were showcasing their ready to wear collections, shoe designers were showcasing the fact that shoes are just as important as the rest of the attire. And in this case, shoes were used to commemorate a very special event that kicked off the New York Fashion Week. It was the 70th Anniversary of the Wizard of Oz and top shoe lines participated in the Ruby Slippers Event at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Celebrity Trend Spotting — Julia Roberts in Diane von Furstenberg

julia.jpgYes, we do have a pretty woman here, but Julia Roberts is far from being a diva. Here she is in Los Angeles at an event to accept an American Cinematheque Award. She wore a Diane von Furstenberg from last year and simple peep-toe pumps.

Like this look? We found the exact match to the dress and some pumps to match.

dvfdress1.jpgDiane von Furstenberg has created this beautiful tuxedo inspired evening dress in jersey that is guaranteed not to wrinkle. The V neckline will flatter any figure as will the double breasted closure. Wear it with or without the satin belt attachment. Pick it up at Yoox!

steve-madden.jpgWe always love a good shoe by Steve Madden and here you are seeing his classic Blazzin pump in black suede with patent trim detail and accents. Go for it with this 4.25 inch heel and hidden accents. These shoes are not just for evening wear, you can pair these with anything to dress up your fave pair of jeans or to take with you for that special event.

Daily Fashion Tip – Excerpts From Nina Garcia’s “The Little Black Book of Style” PART ONE

Want some fashion advice? Get it from the best – Nina Garcia the Queen of Fashion over at Elle Magazine. Today and over the next few days I am going to give you some excerpts from Nina Garcia’s The Little Black Book of Style. I have talked about this book before over here, when it was first released, but now that it’s been out for a bit, it’s worth a deeper look. For the cost of lunch, you can pick this book up and have at your fingertips Elle Magazine’s primo fashion genius, uh director, gives you some quintessential tips on how to dress with decorum, and even more importantly, how to make your fashion dollar go from season to season. You will find in her inspiration from the greats in the fashion industry, as well as everything you need to know on the must-haves, and how to wear them.

Nina talks about investing in the bones for your wardrobe throughout the book, and those bones are what we are going to be covering.

“The bones of your wardrobe are those essential staples that go with almost everything, never go out of style, and are enduringly chic. They are meant to be the black canvas onto which you can add layers….these staples transcend time, trends, and travel. They can go from day to night, season to season, and they can still be worn five years from now.”

    What are they? Let’s have a look…

The Little Black Dress. Capital L, Capital B, Capital D.

This is the ultimate blank canvas…mysterious, chic, understated, and provocative…it will flatter you, but it will not detract from the rest of you. It lets your hair, accessories, and your personality take center stage. And the slimming effect – let’s not forget the slimming effect.

This Diane von Furstenberg Bateau neck wrap dress is a classic example. For $300, your fashion dollar can stretch for years to come. Throw a cardigan or cropped jacket on this for day, and hang that sweater up for evening. Perfect! One is never over or underdressed with a little black dress – Karl Lagerfeld (Chanel, Creative Director)
    The Cashmere Sweater.

“In all kinds of weather, and for any kind of occasion, throwing on cashmere makes you feel instantly luxe. A cashmere cardigan is perfect over anything – a dress, T-shirt, button down shirt – but also incredibly sexy when worn alone. A cashmere turtleneck is perfect when paired with just about everything – jeans, trousers, and skirts.”

This Michael Kors Cashmere turtleneck sweater is again, also a very solid investment. I do not believe in God. I believe in cashmere. ~Fran Lebowitz (Author)

    The Trench Coat.

“A classic trench can work in any kind of weather and goes well with almost anything (or almost nothing if you are feeling very film noir). But the best part of the trench coat is that it makes you instantly mysterious. Wear it with big sunglasses if you want to really channel your inner detective, spy, or fugitive”.

Looking for a trench coat that will take you from year to year? Again, stretch that fashion dollar with this Burberry Prorsum Double-breasted trench coat. I personally prefer the black, again, it goes back to the slimming effect and again, this cut is very flattering and can go from year to year. Put on a trench; you’re suddenly Audrey Hepburn walking along the Seine. ~Michael Kors

Celebrity Trend Spotting – Natalie Portman in Lanvin

portman1.jpgHere we find the ever so stunning and ever so toned Natalie Portman doing the red carpet thing in Beverly Hills for the premiere of The Darjeeling Limited. She has a small cameo in this flick, and you can also find her in a new short Hotel Chevalier where it is said she has some nude booty going on. Here she features a beautiful red satin minidress by Lanvin that she accentuates perfectly with black in clutch, heels, and belt.

Like the look? Take the trend for yourself!

I absolutely ADORE this dress by Diane von Furstenberg, and I have to say, you will RARELY find Diane as affordable as this Diane von Furstenberg Spanish Rose dress from Net-A-Porter. This one you can take day or night, add a pair of tights to your heels and bada-bing you are back to day. This dress is wool jersey, so we are talking literally wrinkle free. I love the cap sleeves, flattering pleated skirt, and there is the sexiest low V in the back that will make your heart flutter. So pretty!

Cinch it with this Anna Sui Gold frame belt. This pretty belt is versatile enough to dress up for a special occasion, or to add some bling to your fave jeans. The belt is a wide waist cincher in suede with gold accent stitching and a picture frame style buckle.

And pair the above with these fabulous Christian Louboutin Classic leather slingbacks in what are probably his most affordable pair of shoes. These are simple black leather slingblack with a 3 inch heel and his signature color blocking on both the heel and the sole. This color blocking will absolutely turn heads when paired with the dress.
