Top Shoe Designers Prove – There’s No Place Like Home

Ah yes, when it comes to New York Fashion Week it can certainly feel like the most mystical place on earth. And while top designers were showcasing their ready to wear collections, shoe designers were showcasing the fact that shoes are just as important as the rest of the attire. And in this case, shoes were used to commemorate a very special event that kicked off the New York Fashion Week. It was the 70th Anniversary of the Wizard of Oz and top shoe lines participated in the Ruby Slippers Event at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Fashion Designer Profile – Natalie Portman for Té Casan

Chrissie | Celebrities, Charity, Designer Profiles, Fashion, Shoes | Wednesday, 16 January 2008

portman.jpgYup. You read it right. Natalie Portman has now climbed onto the fashion ladder to join the ranks of other celebrity designers making their name and a few bucks on fashion design. But hey….this time the twist is something you will not expect. Natalie is not ONLY designing shoes for publicity (you have to know there must be a little of that somewhere) but she is also designing shoes for a cause. That’s right, she’s not making any money off this. What you may not know about Natalie Portman is that she is a bona fide vegan eating hippy tree hugger. I love it! She says she buys her shoes from either Target or Stella McCartney (probably because of Stella’s stance on animal products). She says “As a vegan, it’s been challenging finding designer shoes made of alternative materials….It’s the perfect opportunity to design high-end footwear free of animal products…” So, like most celebs who want something but can’t find it anywhere, she did it herself. The end product? An entire cruelty-free line of shoes for specialty retailer Té Casan. But that’s not all. 100%, yes 100% of all proceeds will be going to The Nature Conservancy, an organization committed to protecting the ecology. Pretty shoes that support a worthy cause? You have to know I’m in! Let’s see what she’s got!

shoes11.jpgFirst up is the Paloma retailing at $275. I do like these, and you know, this ankle strap feature has been very appealing to me lately. I am finding a lot of the shoes I like, have this feature. Go figure! What I like about this design is that this one will last. It is a nice, elegant look, that isn’t TOO contemporary, so it isn’t going to go out of style.

boots.jpgNot exactly sure what these boots are made OF, but they are definitely sexy enough to be made for walking just about anywhere. These are Portman’s Pava, and yes, I can refer to her by last name now since she’s an official designer. Retailing for anywhere between $185 to $325, you can do these with a mini dress, jeans, whatever. These will pair beautifully with just about anything.

shoes3.jpgOh, well, you can’t have a shoe collection without a standard Mary Jane. Love these, so cute, and how on earth did she get something so beautiful without using animal products? You know, that is the beauty of the collection. Here you have the Pippa, going once, going twice, sold for $265.

Check out Te Casan if you want to see more. Also, the website is taking special orders for the shoes starting TODAY so if you have a must needs, then you must goes. Otherwise, wait till they hit the stores Feb. 1.
