Sally Hansen HD – The Compliment a Day Kind of Nail Color

Every season I have a favorite nail color. Being a single mom to a second grader, I don’t have a WHOLE lot of time for salon visits and day spa excursions, but I DO make a point of getting in my weekly manicure. There’s just something about having groomed nails that completes any look. And doing my own manicure every Sunday also provides the additional benefit of having an excuse to plant myself in front of the TV for a few hours. For me, I like big bold colors, always have. Yep, they do require a little more maintenance because the chip factor can lead to the ick factor, so I’m also always on the lookout for a color that will a.) look pretty, and b.) Last. Top coats are wonderful for this, but you still need a good base that is quality. This is why for me, when it comes to nail color, I refuse to buy anything less than 5 bucks because well, let’s face it, you get what you pay for. I also am a big big fan of the Opi line, and have a ton of different shades in that line as well, because that is a brand with some serious staying power. In fact, I don’t veer often from Opi for that reason, so you can imagine my surprise when I ran across this fantastic new color that was a little outside the box for me. Wanna see which one it was?

When I ran across the new Sally Hansen HD line, yes, I was a little skeptical, but the purple really caught my eye. Last summer my nail fave was a purple as well, but more lavender (and yes, an OPI product), and this color stood out because it was purple, and bold. At $8.99 I thought I’d give it a whirl. And WOW, a new favorite was born. Let’s just say I tried it out for the first time about a month and a half ago, and am now into my second bottle. I’m THAT hooked. Why? Because every where I go with this color, I get a compliment. Today it was the gentleman teller at the bank. Not often I get compliments on my nails from the male crowd, so that alone is sign enough that this is a color that makes a statement. But he wasn’t the first and I’m hoping won’t be the last, cuz this is a color I am taking all through summer. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE has stopped to compliment on this gorgeous color. And so this one and many of the other fantastic colors Sally Hansen has in this line will be one of my accessories this season. And you can too, just pick it up anywhere they sell Sally Hansen, cosmetics counter in my local pharm was the farthest I needed to go.
Beauty Tips: I fully agree with All Laquered Up who discovered these shades a whole year ago (what rock was I under?) this one is DEFINITELY a three coater, that’s why I’m already into bottle numero duex. You really want this opaque shade that is both metallic and lustery all at the same time. You also need to give yourself some serious drying time with each coat. When it comes to the metallic shades, any nick during the drying time is going to wreck the entire look. Okay, so I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my nails. Last week I did my three coats, nicked one nail, and started the whole thing from scratch. Again, the bolder the color the more careful you have to be with things of this nature, so go with the three coats for this gorgeous look (and yes, the final look is EXACTLY as is pictured here) and give yourself lots of time for drying. And hey, don’t you deserve an afternoon off anyway?
